A Playground In The Heart of Kuala Lumpur Where One Can Eat, Play & Live
“We believe that there are 2 stages in life, the first is when you’re literally young and then when you’re young at heart!” remarks owner Michele Kwok with a glint in her eye and a mischievous smile. “That is why our new food and beverage outlet centres around the concept of A Playground. It’s a space where everybody can come round and just enjoy the simple pleasures in life with good friends over good food, drinks and have loads of laughs. The fun element is going to feature significantly at our new place.”
Tujo Bar-sserie & Grill is located on the ground floor of the prestigious Ascott Residences in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. There is a welcome coziness that makes one feel right at home. Helmed by the notable SOUL Society Group which owns other eateries such as SOULed OUT Sri Harts and Ampang and WIP, Tujo’s offering is encompassed in its tagline of Eat, Live & Play. Here one will find a space where one may wile away the hours and enjoy good conversation over good food and drinks. |

The name is a spin on the Malaysian word which stands for the numeral 7 and was selected for its numerological significance in both Western and Eastern culture. Brightly hued strands of five colours make up the logo which connotes playfulness and whimsy and mirrors the interior. And by the way, Tujo is open 7 days a week from 7am till closing.
The interior design of this Bar-sserie & Grill was conceived by renowned designer Ed Poole who envisioned it as a space that satisfied ones inner 60’s fetish! “Believe it or not, there are tons of people out there that have admiration for an era that speaks of simplicity and shaped a generation. Not many admit it but I’m glad the owners saw my vision and allowed me to satisfy my fetish.” explained Ed. “I was inspired by 1960s Danish modern design which exemplified sleek simplicity and comfort. We kept it uncomplicated, accented only by a few quirky features like the Disorganised Front of House Counter, that looks like carpentry gone mad and Modo Chandeliers which hints of our solar system. There’s a huge living wall on one side that adds to the warmth of the whole space.” |
Saunter in and be greeted by the pulse of funky, soulful tunes as you are whisked away and seated. Drink in the easy going ambience as you are handed a newspaper disguised as Tujo’s menu. Around you is a steady stream of banter and laughter that emanates from every corner as you try and decide what will satisfy your palate.
Let’s Eat headlines the food menu which is made up of Feel Good Food…… The highlight would be the all new Grill with a delicious selection of meats and seafood cooked to your liking. Take your pick from prime cuts like the Dinosaur Ribs, Porterhouse, a selection of Gourmet Sausages, Lobster and Tiger Prawns and couple it with rubs like the Montreal Salt or Lemon Pepper which will impart that added zing to the palate. For the non-carnivorous in nature, a terrific choice of salads, nibbles, pizzas, sandwiches, an eclectic slew of main courses and desserts are offered. Our range of pizzas is literally black or green as the pizza dough is infused with either squid ink or spinach. Look out for toppings that can mend a broken heart such as the Napoli Bianco, Mediterranean, Quattro Formaggio and the very local Malaysiana. Those with moderate sized appetites should dig into dishes such as The Stinger – a twist on the classic Malaysian satay, Venison Roll and Vegetable Wrap amongst others. So be greedy and polish off that slab of meat or be restrained and share a few dishes with your nearest and dearest. |

For the drinks menu, Let’s Drink makes a bold statement on the cover with Delicious Drinks being Tujo’s promise to its patrons. Our award winning mixologists have muddled up many a cocktail with an attitude which will be the highlights of the bar. The menu will also carry an extensive array of other giggle juice, ranging from wines, champagnes, beers, spirits, detox drinks, coffees and teas. New must tries include Fruity Sangrias infused with more unusual flavours like Lychee, Peach or Mango and Flavoured Teas such as the to-die-for Caramel Passion Tea and the zinged-out Spicy Mango Tea.
Do be on the lookout for a selection of table games from yesteryear that will be made available to all patrons to reminisce and have a few laughs. Five Stones, Bottlecaps, Country Game, Pick Up Sticks…….ring a bell?
“It’s been a pretty intense five months getting everything ready. But I am more than excited with what Tujo has to offer. We already have dinner reservations from our regulars from our other outlets and they all want to challenge me to a game of Five Stones, so looks like it’s time to trim the nails.” laughs Michele.
So stroll in, rid yourself of those ties and coats and let the laid back atmosphere of Tujo take over for a couple of hours. We promise you will leave with full bellies, a lighter step and a silly smile! |
